Dr.  Michael R. Mullen is a Professor of Marketing & International Business at Florida Atlantic University. He was a Fulbright Scholar in International Business to Ireland at the Dublin Institute of Technology. He has also been on the faculties of the University of Cambridge, England, and Michigan State University. Professor Mullen has a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Marketing) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an Executive MBA Degree (General Management and Marketing) from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University (rated #1 B-school in the world by the Economist where he was elected valedictorian) and a BS degree (Political Science) from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Dr. Mullen’s public service includes being a decorated Vietnam veteran (US Army, 1st Infantry Division) and serving as Chairman of the Board of Visitors for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, a member of the Wisconsin Higher Education Aids Board, and Vice President of the Economic Development Authority, Green Bay, WI. He has also been President of the Riverside Park Residents Association, Fort Lauderdale, VP Education, Greater Fort Lauderdale Sister Cities International, Vice Chair, International Business Council of South Florida and as an Associate Member of the Center for International Business and Management at the University of Cambridge. He has been active in many chambers of commerce, economic development boards, political campaigns, referendum and civic groups.

Mike Mullen was an entrepreneur/CEO in the telecommunications industry starting several firms including Mullen Telecommunications Inc. and two union affiliates that built more than 250 cable TV and other telecom systems in 13 states. He also owned and or managed firms with investments in real estate (ski lodge, resort hotel, warehouses, a factory, a greenhouse, duplexes and apartments), a pizza business, cable TV systems, and other investments. Collectively, these businesses had more than 700 employees. He provides services as a part time executive, in market research, marketing strategy and litigation support. A Florida Circuit Court qualified Dr. Mullen as an expert witness in the areas of international business and marketing and quantitative analysis of business information (i.e., damage models or statistical analysis). Captain Mullen is licensed as a US Merchant Marine Officer for vessels up to 100 tons by the US Coast Guard.

Professor Mullen has more than 50 refereed articles in leading academic journals and proceedings that have been cited more than 1,200 times (Google Scholar). He has also written more than 280 political and business articles/press releases published in the popular press and has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal as “an expert in international management,” page 1, U.S. and European Editions. Dr. Mullen’s academic research is published in the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Marketing, International Marketing Review, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Small Business Management, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Journal of Macromarketing, Journal of Global Marketing, Journal of Global Business, Cross-Cultural Management: An International Journal and the Irish Marketing Review, among others, and in proceedings of academic conferences such as the American Marketing Association, European Marketing Academy, Academy of International Business, and American Management Association, among others. His research focuses on international/cross-cultural management including market selection, quantitative research methods, and public policy including the effects of globalization on economic development & quality of life. His most important scholarly work has been Chairing/Co-Chairing doctoral dissertations for Chinese, Tunisian, Bulgarian, Irish, German and American Ph.D. students.

Professor Mullen teaches marketing & international business courses at FAU and previously at the University of Cambridge, UK; DIT, Ireland; UNISUL, Brazil; ITESM, Mexico; MSU and UNC-Chapel Hill to Ph.D., M. Phil., MBA, MSIB and undergraduate students. He has also developed and lead foreign study tours to Costa Rica, Brazil, England and Ireland and a cruise/hospitality industry study tour to the Western Caribbean.
